UPDATE: BioWare has published a Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut FAQ, and in it confirmed that no new endings will be added to the game (Suck it Fanboys!).

“BioWare strongly believes in the team’s artistic vision for the end of this arc of the Mass Effect franchise,” the studio said. “The extended cut DLC will expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned.”

What it will do is expand on the ending “by creating additional cinematics and epilogue scenes to the existing ending sequences”. “The goal of these new scenes is to provide additional clarity and closure to Mass Effect 3,” BioWare explained.

What makes me smile is that BioWare haven’t caved in as previously thought, so now the supposed “fans” have to endure the endings that they have! Good on BioWare, don’t change what you created ever!

Original: Its been weeks of moaning and whining on the internet by a bunch of “supposed” fans of Mass Effect 3, all discussing how “bad” the ending of Mass Effect 3 was. There have been weeks of  pleas  for the studio to release a NEW ending for the game.

And do you know what?  The internet has won! BioWare has announced Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut, thanks to Eurogamer; a free DLC pack that will expand upon the events at the end of the game that caused the uproar which will be released this summer.

EA says: Through additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes, the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut will give fans seeking further clarity to the ending of Mass Effect 3 deeper insights into how their personal journey concludes. Coming this summer, the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut will be available for download on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and PC for no extra charge.”

“We are all incredibly proud of Mass Effect 3 and the work done by Casey Hudson and team,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka, Co-Founder of BioWare and General Manager of EA’s BioWare Label. “Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding. With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team’s artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe.”

Casey Hudson, Executive Producer of the Mass Effect series added, “We have re-prioritized our post-launch development efforts to provide the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the ending of the game, in a way that will feel more personalized for each player.”

Personally I disagree with this. No studio should have to create something new due to public pressure. They’ve made the game, they have invested the money. The studio had the artistic integrity to create game, not the fans! For Bioware to cave in and release a new ending, certainly upsets the gaming status-quo.
