Rezzed 2012: Aliens: Colonial Marines may feature female Marine characters.

Yes the other day Entertainment Cocktail were at the Rezzed gaming expo and Aliens: Colonial Marines was on display

We talked to a bunch of friendly SEGA staff who answer several questions before giving us the good old “if we told you, we would have to kill you!” line.  We also got to play some of the game’s multiplayer, which we discussed in our other article.  We only got to play as the Marines in multiplayer mode, and when we asked one of the reps why this was, they replied that it was so that they could keep a few secrets about the game, they didn’t want to spoil all of it before the game launches next year.  We also went on to quiz them about the upcoming title’s single-player.  Not much about story or what else what we could expect was given away but they said the true Aliens experience is there with one of the original members of the Aliens franchise working alongside Gearbox and SEGA in the development of the game.

We did ask them about the recent rumour that the game will not feature female character in the title, especially since the Aliens series is known for strong female characters such as Ripley, Vasquez , Ferro and Dietrich, and that a petition had been started by fans of the game and the Alien franchise.  The Rep was indeed aware of the petition, but they laughed and said “away you go!” to play the game. What we had there was no confirmation and no defining statements about the issue, but what they told us throughout our chat was that there are many secrets about the game that have not come out yet,  and they didn’t want to just tell everyone everything otherwise what is the point in all of these shows and previews for the game.  So to all those who want a female character in the game, all we have to do is wait a few more months as the likelihood is that there will be something in the pipline.

When I returned home from the event I looked at some of the sceneshots from the upcoming game, and guess what I found? Evidence to point out that in fact the game has female characters already.

The evidence is subtle and hell I could be wrong entirely!  Let me lay the evidence down in front of you with a series of images released by SEGA and Gearbox, in which you can clearly see three characters that are of femine build!

The first picture you see is the game’s official box art. That box art depicts the Alien looking all menancing, and four marines strutting their stuff. Now look at the second marine from the right, look at the size and build. Now this is an observation on a picture that is miniscule in size, but this character doesn’t look particularly manly.

Here is the second picture.  Look at the marine on the far right, who appears to have their hair up in a bun.

In the third picture you see three marines battling it out against Aliens in a room. Look at the marine in the centre, who looks very much like a female character model.  It appears that Aliens: Colonial Marines will indeed feature female marines characters.
