Valve moving into Hardware Development

Valve, the developers behind Portal, Half-Life and Steam have posted an interest job ad that will simply get the rumour mill flowing once more.

The job ad in question on the Valve site is for an ‘Industrial Designer’ with the position information shining light on the firms disappointment with today’s PC hardware with them now taking it upon themselves to change that.

The listing mentions how Valve is usually a software company and how important PC’s and Mac’s are to them, to their partners and their costumers, but they talk about how “frustrated” they are with the “lack of innovation in the computer hardware space,” with that they say “so we’re jumping in.”

The ad mentions how basic input devices like keyboards and mouses haven’t changed in years and that there is a void in market for it.

They ad lists what they are looking for and you certainly have to be skilled and experienced! 6+ years of experience in fact!

This isn’t the first time Valve has been linked to hardware, there were rumours of them developing a Steam console (please do it! I will buy it immediately!) with concept work appearing online, only for it to be debunked by staff at Valve, but you never know what they mean by hardware innovation.

Check out the ad below, and if you fancy it, why not apply!
