In a piece of news that will surprise very few, Avengers Assemble (or, now that it’s finally opened in North America, Marvel’s The Avengers!) has amassed a huge $614m in its twelve day opening, with just three of those days in the Land of the Brave.
And those three days happen to be a weekend, and that weekend happens to be a very good weekend for Marvel, who have counted up around $200.3 MILLION in opening weekend box-office receipts for the seven superheroes.
Just to put that in perspective: hark back to 2008 when The Dark Knight broke all records and caused a fuss. That was for a measly $158 million. And last year with the bespectacled wizard? $169 million. It’s pocket change, really.
So, with Avengers smashing the previous records by more than a whopping $30 million (more than most movies make in their entire opening weekend), it’s well on track to bust more records.
And probably Avengers 2 and 3.
